Five theatre companies have through 2018-21 established the network “Participate in your life” exploring interactivity in children’s theatre through discussions and workshops. Fall 2021 we will arrange an open conference about interactivity and participation in children’s theatre in Bergen, Norway, where we will invite a broad spectre of artists from all over Europe. August 2022 will be the premiere of an interactive performance the partners in the network will make together.
The main aim of this project is to exchange artistic methods and approches: to get to know each other's cultural background and to ensure know-how transfer. In the future the members of this network should be able to create international projects on different areas of performativity. Our long-term goal is to create a platform of knowledge where the partners connect performative tools and participation, concentrating on children and youngsters. We hope that the project can stimulate other artists.

The method “theater of the participant”, based on the British Theater in Education, has been our starting point. It uses a performance technique based on the involvement of the audience, that many times blur the boundaries between actor and audience. In this way, we make sure that the participants (audience) are able to have an impact on the events and be able to have their own relationship to the problem put in focus. We believe that if people are able to choose and make decisions in their fantasy or in an imaginary world, they are going to be able to do so in real life as well.
We believe that what the method represent can be useful in other european countries for both children, youngsters, pedagogues, community developers and theater professionals. It opens for professional opportunities to reach the audience in new ways. In the conference in 2021, we will also focus on other methods of interactivity and participation.
We are very greatful for the financial support for this project. Thank you so much to our funders:
