The Participate in your life network conducted our FREEDOM OF SPEECH in 2025, a collaboration among youth and artists from Lithuania, Norway, Hungary, and Iceland. Our goal was to explore how the younger generation perceived and was affected by freedom of speech in today’s world, a topic that had become increasingly critical due to rising polarization and a decline in democratic values.
This project was born from a shared concern among the partners to engage young people in this vital conversation. Through interactive and participatory theater methods, we created a safe space for youth to share their voices, thoughts, and reflections. By listening to them, we were able to better understand their reality and, in turn, influence the future of theater for young audiences. The performances we created were directly inspired by their perspectives, making the work relevant and meaningful. We hope their participation had a lasting and contagious impact on other young people.

The Freedom of speech project is funded by Erasmus + Active Youth, andw with travel funding from Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture and from Bergen Municipality.
- Autumn 2024: Each partner hosted a local start-up meeting with 5 youth from their country.
- February 2025: A 5-day workshop for artists and youth from all four countries was held in Budapest.
- March 2025: Each partner organized a follow-up youth workshop in their country with the original 5 youth and more participants.
- April 2025: A 3-day artists' workshop concluded the project in Kaunas.
